In Conversation with daraGOY

Sarah Sulzberger Perpich: What is your name? Age?

daraGOY: I prefer to keep my name anonymous. As I consider daraGOY to be a creative outlet, I would like to remain true to my vision and inspirations without being bothered by any reinforcement—whether it be positive, or negative. However, I am 23.

Sarah: What is your family background? Did it influence your choice of career?

daraGOY: My family background has a small hint of German but is mainly Russian. And yes, my background is one of the influences in choosing to create daraGOY. I am influenced by exploration into my background and heritage as well as my culture and my best friend, who comes from Vladivostok.

Gifts that Give Back

GiftBoxGift giving is always challenging; will she like it? Did I spend the right amount on her? Will she return it? Is it the right color?  Can I really afford this?  Will this present show her how much she means to me?

In the midst of our dire economic climate, gift giving becomes even trickier.  This year more people than ever are out of jobs and barely making ends meet so for the first time in a long time, the idea of presents on the holidays seem over-the-top and even socially unacceptable.  I have the answer!

My answer is giving a gift that keeps on giving. Spend Less Get More.

At the same time you are picking something stylish out for your mom, friend, sister, think about what lies beneath the tangible aspect of the gift.  Gifts this year have endless philanthropic possibilities. Perhaps the proceeds of the gift goes back to a particular cause near and dear to her heart, perhaps by buying one item you are giving another item for free to an unknown face.  Philanthropic gifts have become the zeitgeist for this holiday season and I have found the best gifts for Her that will make you feel even better giving or receiving. Gift Giving becomes fun and fulfilling once again and even takes a little but of the guilt away.

Behind the Fashion Blogger’s Biases

Fashion Blogger BryanBoy

Advances in the internet are changing fashion coverage and reporting as we’ve known it. Originally, a journalist’s goal was to cover the news with a keen objective lens.  Sure the fashion editors and reporters have always been critical and concise in their reviews, but bias in reporting remains the elephant in the room concerning “objective” reviews and the integrity of fashion journalism. Heels at their Highest!

heels1.jpgWe all know by now that the decade ago “it bag” has been uniformly replaced by the “it shoe.”  The higher the heel, the higher the price and the higher up you are in fashion’s pecking order.  All over the New York City streets, women are wearing platforms that look like stilts, teetering on the sidewalk with heels getting stuck in the grates like dental floss through a cavity.

Zipped Up: Zoe Twitt

Fresh Face on the Fashion scene spotted: 26-year old fashion designer Zoe Twitt. Destined from an early age to create her own fashion and accessory label, by the age of  seven Twitt had already traveled the world with her parents, visiting textile factories and learning from their work in the industry.  Zoe observed the fashion world as it grew and changed by traveling and living all over the world; from Australia, England, India, Germany and finally settling in New York City.  She studied at the University of Melbourne in Australia, and Columbia University in New York City. She also pursued an acting career during which realized the importance of clothing that made her feel comfortable and confident during auditions. This inspired her to create a clothing line and she soon left acting to devote all of her time to her label,  ZOETWITT.

Her first collection consists of 40 pieces made exclusively from Superfine Italian Wool Silk Jersey and fine silk charmeuse. Each item has Zoe’s signature seamless touches and a Madame Gres inspired drapery.  Twitt’s playful side inspired unique embellishments: large silver zippers on her jersey pieces as well as on her silk, and bright colors like pink and electric yellow mixed with gray cream and black.  Altogether, the collection is a combination of staple pieces that mix beautifully for layering.  Her message is versatility, utilitarianism, and autonomy.

Each piece is limited edition and made by hand in New York City.

My Favorite Finds: Check  out her sexy “Sarah Swing”  top draped over the skin tight extra-long “Zipper Pants” for the ultimate Rocker Chic look from head to toe!
